Senior Data Analyst – Pharmacy Claims Focus

Rainmakers Strategic Solutions, LLC, a certified SBA 8(a), and Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB), is looking to expand capabilities in the health care data analytics space to support an expanding portfolio of federal healthcare clients.

The Rainmakers Senior Data Analyst will support data analysis and reporting for various federal government agency (i.e., Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) projects.

Key Duties/Responsibilities of the Senior Data Analyst

  • Collecting and managing sensitive data and maintaining data integrity and confidentiality of information
  • Collecting and analyzing raw data, interpreting/drawing conclusions, and summarizing data for project reporting
  • Developing data summaries and creating graphical summaries applying a strong level of data visualization expertise
  • Supporting routine and ad-hoc analytic reports
  • Lead development of Medicaid pharmaceutical claims analytic tasks and analytic studies
  • Obtain data from CMS’ Integrated Data Repository (IDR) and/or Chronic Condition Warehouse (CCW)
  • Conduct Medicare/Medicaid and pharmacy analysis, for example, data cleansing, validation, matching, error identification; querying; and quality control
  • Use SQL programming language for queries
  • Design and produce Tableau and/or PowerBi tables and charts
  • Adhere to project quality assurance processes
  • Develop reports and present analytic findings to government agency client
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements 


  • Master’s Degree in Health Data Analytics, Health Data Science, Health Analytics, Public Health with a focus in Statistics or Data Analysis, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field

Relevant Knowledge

  • Government health care programs, preferred Medicare and Medicaid a plus
  • Medicaid pharmacy claims
  • CMS’ IDR via the Teradata Platform (Parts A, B, C, D, and DME claims, beneficiary, and provider data sources)
  • CMS’ CCW via the Virtual Resource Data Center, familiarity with, but not required
  • Data hosted on CMS’ AWS cloud
  • Large amounts of primary data to discover trends, patterns, inconsistencies, and outliers
  • HIPAA related knowledge and adherence

Years of Experience 

  • 5 years of healthcare experience, health care data analysis preferred
  • 5 years in government contracting
  • 7 years working with CMS IDR data
  • 5 years demonstrated ability using one or more data visualization software packages (i.e., Tableau, PowerBi)

Relevant Past Experience 

  • Working with CMS, working at a government consulting/contracting organization

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • SAS
  • Tableau, PowerBi

  • Requires prolonged sitting and telephone use
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, copiers and printers
